All coils have copper windings, but the quality of the copper wire is what makes a good coil good and a bad coil bad. We only use virgin copper for our windings. When using an inferior recycled copper, the porosity of the wire is extremely high. This, in turn, limits the ability of the current to flow smoothly and efficiently through the copper wound core. The result can be anything from a short in the winding, causing a “hot spot”, to premature failure of the entire coil. The last thing you need is a failed coil in the middle of a project. The old addage “you get what you pay for” is definitely applicable when it comes to a coil. Starting with the correct raw materials gives United’s points and condensors a leg up on the competition. The correct spring tensions are an absolute must when it comes to producing a high quality set of points. With the improper spring tension, your point will “float” at higher RPM’s. This is the last thing you need when you are in the middle of a job. We test our raw material to meed and often exceed the exacting specifications required, to produce an OEM quality part. Don’t forget the cam. Inferior or improper raw material used in molding the cam, can also cause premature failure in the field. Our cam material is spec’d to meet and often exceed the OEM requirements. Improper ohm resistance is another weak link in the proper operation of a point and consensor kit. We make our condensors to meed the requirements of the OEM part. Distributor Caps & Rotors

Cap and rotors are wearable items. Because of the high voltage flowing through the cap and rotor, their contact points wear out after time. This is jsut a plain fact. This is unavoidable. What is avoidable, is using a cap and rotor made with inferior raw materials. The use of inferior raw material is the main reason for dielectric break down. The importance of proper dielectric properties cannot be understated. When a rotor is spinning at 5000 rpm, distributing 40,000 volts to each terminal in a distributor cap, all within a space the size of a tennis ball, you can see the need have superior dielectric properties. United uses a glass filled resin to ensure all dielectric properties are maintained for the life of the cap and rotor. There are many caps and rotors in the market that are made of plastic. Making caps and rotors out of plastic, without the reinforcement of a glass resin, will cause premature failure.
